The Tongue of the Learned
“The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary” (Isaiah 50:4). The tongue of the learned is a gift from God, as it is written: “Who teaches like Him?” (Job 36:22). Ask the Lord to teach you and transform your life, so that when your converse with your wife, children, and friends you will build them up, not tear them down.
“He awakens Me morning by morning, … My ear to hear as the learned.”(Isaiah 50:4) The Lord keeps teaching me day after day. He alerts me, and awakens my ears to listen and learn either through the Word, spiritual meetings, or day to day situations. There is no limit to what the Lord can teach me!
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine” (2Timothy3:16). Because the Lord loves us, he will teach us through his word, sometimes through pain, other times allowing us to learn from our mistakes.
“That I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.” (Isaiah50:4). Seek the Lord’s teaching daily, then your reactions and your speech will be changed. “For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God” (James1:20), “rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God” (1Peter 3:4). Let us not be like the Galatian Church who were devouring and biting one another by their words.
James spoke about the dangers of the tongue and our inability to control it. However, the more we come before the Lord in prayer the more He teaches us and imparts His thoughts to us. He also teaches us while studying His Word. Thus, our tongue is no longer used by Satan, but by the Holy Spirit; in truth a tongue of the learned!
“But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.” (1Thessalonians 4:9). The Lord’s teaching renews our minds, changes our reactions, and makes us different especially in the area of our speech. Let us confess, every morning, that we possess the tongue of the learned, that we can speak a word in season to help the weary … simply because we are in Christ!
Thank you Lord,
Every morning, you give me the tongue of the Learned
And the ears that listen
So I can speak a word in season to the weary!
