Believe in the Lord’s Protection

‘I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.’ (Ps. 91:2,3). As I proclaim my faith in the Lord, I trust that He delivers me from the perilous pestilence and under His wings I take refuge.  Thus, I will not be afraid of the pestilence that walks by night, but rest assured that though a thousand may fall by my side and ten thousand at my right hand, none shall come near me.

When you meditate on these verses, faith in the truth they proclaim will fill your heart.  But, if you find that you are lacking in faith, pray and ask the Lord to help your unbelief.  When you praise and worship the Lord Jesus Christ, your intercessor and priest in heaven, who helps those who are tempted, He will touch you with the Holy Spirit, supplying your need of faith.

“With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” (Ps. 91:16). Do not expect that you will live a short life like John the Baptist, for he was an exception. With the Lord you will enjoy long life and see His salvation. Proclaim your trust that the Lord will fill your days with satisfaction; surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life. If you feel that you frequently blunder, come before the Lord in humility confessing your mistakes and He will remedy them.  Be sincere with the Lord and your brethren and the Lord will bring food out of the eater and something sweet out of the strong one. Do not cover your sins as it is written he who covers his sins does not prosper.

Divine Protection is the theme that runs throughout Psalm 34.  You might face difficulties, ‘But the Lord delivers him out of them all’ (Ps. 34:19). The Lord’s mighty arm heals from all sicknesses and delivers out of every pit! When you are subjected to unrealistic fears from Satan, claim this verse: ‘And delivered me from all my fears’ (Ps. 34:4). Expect the Holy Spirit to fill you with deep inner peace, and faith that the Lord will deliver you from all your fears.

‘I will lift up my eyes to the hills- from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.’ (Ps. 121:1, 2). My help comes from the Lord (not the hills) who made heaven and earth; that is to say the one who governs everything. This was reiterated by Abraham when he met Melchizedek. Help comes from the possessor of everything who gives generously for our enjoyment; He gives joy, wisdom, and peace.  He holds the future in His Hands. He governs heaven and earth, the sun and the moon! Speaking in such a manner to ourselves builds our faith, filling our hearts with peace.  As you go to sleep every night, repeat to yourself Bible verses such as:  let not your heart be troubled; neither let it be afraid. Never go to sleep distressed, as this builds a stronghold of fear in your heart.

‘He will not allow your foot to be moved’ (Ps. 121:3); meaning He protects you from your own self.  ‘Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand.’ (Ps. 121: 4,5). We are able to sleep knowing that neither the Lord nor the angels sent for our protection sleep. On the contrary, He makes all matters work together for our benefit.  The word keeper is repeated to emphasize the completeness of the protection.  It stresses the fact that we are not at the mercy of circumstances.

The Lord is your keeper; The Lord, in this phrase, means Jehovah who is in a covenant relationship with me. That’s why we pray: Have respect to the covenant (Ps. 74:20). The Lord is our keeper and shade at our right hand, as the shade denotes protection from the scorching heat of the sun. ‘The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.’ (Ps. 121:6), continuous protection day and night. If you are suffering from a deadly disease, proclaim your faith that, ‘Your destroyers and those who laid you waste shall go away from you.’ (Is. 49:17). The Lord protects you from both visible and hidden danger, ‘For You have been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm,

A shade from the heat; for the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.’ (Is. 25:4)

‘The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul.  The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.’ (Ps. 121: 7, 8).  The Lord surrounds us and preserves the good things in our hearts, so that we don’t lose the desire to bring people to the Lord.  The Lord preserves our going out and coming in.  He is the alpha and omega. He preserves us from the beginning of the day till its end and keeps us in His will today, tomorrow and forever!

The Lord is our helper.  He reigns in our minds and preserves us from delusion and deception. He preserves our soul and body to be able to serve the Lord. Therefore, present your life to the Lord on the altar and ask him to use you for the winning of souls more than ever before. The body is for the Lord, not for sexual immorality, uncleanness, sin, or unholy grief; and the result is that the Lord is for the preservation of our bodies!

If you are going through rough times, like Paul in the ship that was hit by contrary dangerous winds, or Jeremiah who lived among a people under divine judgement, or John who said I am your companion in tribulation and the kingdom of Jesus Christ, remember the Lord Jesus’ prayer, ‘I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.’ (John 17:15). Trust that the Lord will preserve you as he preserved Paul and all passengers travelling along with him. You, also, have a role to play in saving those around you by your prayer.

The Lord kept Jeremiah and gave him favor before the king of Babylon.  He also used Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian to rescue him from the dungeon. And the Lord rewarded Ebed-Melech for that by delivering him from the hands of those whom he feared. If you are afraid, the Lord will send you a message to fill you with peace/reassure you.  If you walk in God’s will, He will be responsible for your safety amid danger; for the Lord is our high priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses!

Normal daily living will not draw out of us anything extraordinary.  It is during difficult times that the Lord is able to bring forth a kingly nature.  His glory shines on us and we are able to see the glory of the Lord in a much clearer way.
